Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”  The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.  Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time.  In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment.  When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.

Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate. Chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patient’s condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other members of the health care team

  • LCT-1000® Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy™ is an innovative, scientifically based, therapeutic modality. This new technology offers advanced pain relief and expedited healing times through a process known as photobiostimulation.

Laser Therapy does not require the use of drugs or surgery, and there are no known side effects or risks that may occur with other forms of treatment. In addition, it can often achieve results faster than other treatment modalities. During the treatment the patient will feel a deep soothing warmth. This pleasant sensation reassures the patient that the laser is stimulating cellular activity.

The LCT-1000® delivers, deep, penetrating, photonic energy to bring about profound physiological changes. ATP (Adenosine-triphosphate) production is increased, inflammation and pain reduced and circulation increased at the site of injury. These changes in cellular chemistry are triggered by the LCT-1000® making it a true healing modality.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is ideal for:

    Musculoskeletal Pain Epicondylitis
    (Tennis or Golfer's Elbow)
    Sports Injuries

    Orthotics

At Santiago Chiropractic Associates, we recognize that structural problems with your body may actually begin in your foundation – with your feet!

Some of the more common problems we see are uneven hips, a high shoulder, head tilt and possible knee problems that result from problems in your feet!

We have the ability to create molds of your feet that are used to make custom-fitted orthotics. These special shoe inserts correct postural or structural imbalances in your body and often relieve aches and pains that occur elsewhere in the body as a result.

    Massage Therapy

We want you to de-stress and experience complete relaxation here at Santiago Chiropractic Associates. To complement our chiropractic services and to help you give yourself the attention you deserve, Santiago Chiropractic Services offers massage therapy, performed by a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT).

Our menu of massage therapy services includes:

    • Swedish Massage – focuses on soft tissue and muscle tension, induces relaxation and increases blood flow throughout the body.

    • Pregnancy Massage – helps relieve the aches and pains associated with pregnancy, eases fatigue and boosts the expectant mother’s energy level!

    • Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy – Great for athletes, this therapy locates muscles that are overworked and “releases” the knots or “triggers” that cause pain and discomfort and helps return muscles to their normal  healthy state.

    • Deep Tissue Massage – Uses slow, deep and deliberate strokes to release deep-rooted muscle tension that needs to be unlocked. Posture, muscle tension and flexibility are noticeably improved!

    • 30-Minute Massage Treatment – Generalized message, on a specific area of tension, such as the neck, shoulders, back or legs.

    Nutritional Counseling

Healthy eating habits are an important element in living the chiropractic lifestyle. Fast food, fried food, trans. fats, sugar and caffeine are foods that introduce toxins to your body and keep you from functioning at a peak performance level. Dr. Santiago has an advanced degree in clinical nutrition and Dr. Scarano’s training as a Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner included extensive evidence based nutritional guidance for supporting patient lifestyle changes. Together, they can work with you to develop a specific plan to help you get and stay on track with healthy food choices and the appropriate supplements you may need to add to you diet. Like our Chiropractic treatment plans, each plan is tailored to meet your specific needs and dietary goals.

    Strength and Conditioning

For those athletes who want enhanced performance in their sport, Santiago Chiropractic Associates offers strength and conditioning programs tailored to meet each athlete’s specific needs or goals.

Each athlete is tested in a sport-specific evaluation session.  An individual strength and conditioning program is designed and implemented, with on-site monitoring to determine whether specific measurable goals and indicators have been achieved.

Athletes are also coached regarding proper nutrition and injury prevention techniques, to keep them safe and healthy, both on and off the playing field.
